Puerperium after a natural birth

Puerperium is known as the first 6 to 8 weeks after birth.
This period is important for the baby and for the parents. You and your baby recover from the birth.
Now you have time to get to know one another.

Many changes will takes place in your body:

  • Childbirth injuries need to heal.
  • The uterus needs to become smaller again.
  • Your body produces breast milk.
  • The hormones change.
  • The circulation changes.

These changes require a lot of energy. Therefore, let yourself relax and do not strain yourself. The best thing during this period is for you to get support from your partner or other people who are important to you.

If you are unsure about whether your baby is doing well, definitely speak to your midwife or doctor.
